Restylane® was the first hyaluronic acid-based soft dermal filler to be approved by the US FDA. It is manufactured by Q-Med and usually used to add volume to lips, enhance lip contours, and reduce the appearance of skin wrinkles. It is also used to diminish lines that run from the corners of the mouth to the nose (nasolabial folds), sad-face mouth corners (melomental folds), forehead wrinkles (frown lines), and “crow’s feet” by the corners of the eyes.
Restylane injections may also be recommended for adding volume to orbital troughs that create facial hollows around and under the eyes. Finally, this soft dermal filler can be used to restore lost cheek volume (buccal fat pad) and to recontour the nose, chin, and forehead. Results typically last about 12 months, but individual results vary by patient.
