Summer Skincare Recommendations

As the seasons change, many people find that their skincare needs to change, too. In the summer, higher temperatures, greater humidity, and more time spent in the sun call for a few shifts in your beauty regimen.

Here are our top recommendations for your skincare routine as you have fun in Florida this summer:

Avoid Potential Pore-Cloggers

Heat and humidity often lead to sweatier days in the summer. That sweat and excess oil can clog your pores, leading to breakouts. To help manage this potential summer skin issue, stick with non-comedogenic skincare products. Non-comedogenic means that the product won’t cause or worsen breakouts.

Additionally, if you struggle with summer acne, consider adding acne-fighting ingredients into your regimens, such as salicylic acid, sulfur, or benzoyl peroxide.

Prioritize SPF

Applying sunscreen is important all year round, as the sun’s harsh UV rays can reach you even on cloudy, rainy days. But, given that many people spend more time outside in the summer, you should pay extra attention to your sunscreen habits.

Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day – no exceptions! If you’re spending time outside, reapply every two hours, or sooner if you’re swimming or sweating. This will keep your skin protected against sunburn and premature aging from UV radiation.

Consider Your Retinoid Routine

Retinoids are powerful anti-aging products. However, they make your skin more vulnerable to sun damage. So, people may experience more irritation from retinoids in the summer.

To combat this, consider reducing the frequency of your retinoid application. Or, commit to being more diligent about reapplying sunscreen (and apply a large amount of sunscreen to begin with).

We don’t recommend stopping your retinoid use altogether, but simply adjusting it to suit the season.
