What is the Difference Between Radiesse and Juvéderm Fillers?

If you’re struggling with signs of skin aging such as wrinkles, laxity, and lost volume, dermal fillers are an aesthetic treatment that could work for you. There are many different fillers available today, each of which offering unique features for specific cosmetic concerns.

Juvéderm and RADIESSE® are two of the most popular fillers on the market. While each can give you a more youthful appearance, they contain different ingredients and work separately to rejuvenate the skin.

RADIESSE® is a dermal filler that consists of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHa) microspheres in an aqueous gel carrier. This specialized formula can improve the appearance of wrinkles, facial folds, and lost volume for a refreshed and rejuvenated look.

One of the main differences between RADIESSE® and other fillers such as Juvéderm is its ability to continue working over time. As well as immediately restoring volume to the skin, RADIESSE® promotes improved collagen production over time. Because RADIESSE® is a collagen stimulator, it encourages the skin to generate more of the protein around the injection area. So, the results of this filler will continue to develop for months after the initial injection and may last for a year or more.

Juvéderm is a collection of hyaluronic acid fillers. Hyaluronic acid naturally decreases with age, so by restoring this vital ingredient, Juvéderm provides volume and hydration to the skin. The Juvéderm family of fillers also utilize specialized Hylacross technology for a smooth, long-lasting formula.

There are multiple types of Juvéderm to suit varying needs, including:

  • Juvéderm Ultra XC for lost facial volume, moderate wrinkles, smile lines, and marionette lines
  • Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC for severe wrinkles, deep-set smile lines, and marionette lines
  • Juvéderm Voluma XC for significant volume loss in the cheeks
  • Juvéderm Vollure XC for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds
  • Juvéderm Volbella for plumper lips
