At What Age Is It Best to Start Botox?

Botox is one of the most well-known treatments for facial wrinkles and creases. It’s an injectable that’s widely used to smooth out the skin for a more youthful look. However, more patients are undergoing Botox early in adulthood as a prevention method for wrinkles.

When exactly is the best time to start receiving Botox injections? Keep reading for our answer to this common question.

When To Start Botox

The age at which you should start Botox comes down to your goals and preferences. If you’re in your 40s, 50s, 60s, or beyond and want to smooth out existing wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions, Botox injections can work for you. However, if you haven’t yet reached this point, preventative Botox is an option to consider.

Preventative Botox is administered when a patient is in their mid-to-late 20s or 30s. With this treatment, Botox is used to prevent wrinkles before they start to form. This injectable keeps the skin smooth by blocking facial muscle contractions, which occur whenever you make facial expressions. Without these muscle contractions, the skin doesn’t crease, which keeps lines and wrinkles from forming.

For many patients, preventing wrinkles is preferable to treating them after they’ve formed. But, while Botox is FDA-approved for use in adults over the age of 18, most patients only need to start receiving preventative Botox after the first signs of fine lines appear. This tends to happen in patients in their late 20s or early 30s.

Receiving Botox For Younger-Looking Skin

The results of Botox last for 3 to 4 months. Most patients return to the office regularly for follow-up treatments.
