Today, on the other hand, science and technology have become so advanced that food can be created above and beyond the limitations of nature. Preservatives, GMOs, additives, and many other things could be causing your body to reject some of the food you eat. IV Vitamins for Nutrient Therapy

IV Nutrient Therapy has been utilized in some form or another since IV use was started. IV nutrient therapy is used to achieve adequate levels of nutrients that will support your body’s needs. Intravenous administration of nutrients can achieve such serum concentrations not obtainable with oral or even intramuscular (IM) administration. Also, various nutrients have been shown to exhibit pharmacological effects usually dependent on the concentration of the nutrient and this level is usually not obtainable through oral administration. In addition, IV nutrient therapy may be more effective than oral or IM treatment for correcting intracellular nutrient deficits. Many different types of nutrients can be given during any IV therapy dependent on the patient’s deficits and/or conditions.

The Myers Cocktail IV therapy is the most common and sought out IV nutrient therapy given. Myers Cocktail was developed by the late John Myers, MD in the 1970s, which was an intravenous vitamin-and-mineral formula used to treat a wide range of clinical conditions.

The Myers Cocktail we use in our office consists of magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, and vitamin C. Myers Cocktail has been found to be effective for  treating conditions such as asthma, migraines, fatigue (including chronic fatigue syndrome), fibromyalgia, muscle spasm, upper respiratory tract infections, chronic sinusitis, seasonal allergic rhinitis, chronic cough, cardiovascular disease, dysmenorrhea and other conditions.

Glutathione IV Therapy add-on is used to strengthen the immune system through detoxification. Glutathione is naturally found in your body and a great antioxidant source. Glutathione is a very simple protein molecule made up of a tripeptide composed of cysteine, glycine and glutamine. The secret of the Glutathione power is the sulfur (SH) chemical groups. Sulfur is a sticky molecule that traps bad things in the body, including free radicals and toxins like mercury and other heavy metals.

IV glutathione is a very important add on to IV nutrient therapy for its ability to detoxify as well as strengthen the immune system and yields excellent results across a variety of conditions, including serious chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease, severe toxicity, neurodegenerative diseases, Alzheimers, stroke, depression, asthma, liver disease, MS, central nervous system damage, kidney disease, lyme disease and cardiovascular disease.

Vitamin C IV Therapy add on is a powerful antioxidant that helps by supporting the immune system, fighting infection, reducing inflammation and improving fatigue. High dose Vitamin C therapy has also been used to treat certain cancerous conditions with positive outcomes ranging from improved quality of life to tumor death. Vitamin C is best used to treat depression, fatigue, allergies, acute illnesses, promote wound healing, etc.  It takes an enormously large amount of oral Vitamin C to be effective but intravenous Vitamin C is better absorbed and more beneficial.

High dose magnesium is a powerful muscle relaxant.  We use it to stop migraines and for stress with excellent results.

At Hermann Wellness our providers and staff believe that IV Nutrient Therapy can help people get back to feeling great and aid others in maintaining a healthy balance life. Why Test Your Toxicity Levels

woman doctorYou may find that despite following a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and making smart lifestyle choices, you still feel sick and weighed down. Due to the continual contamination of our environment, many people unknowingly suffer from high levels of heavy metal exposure like lead, mercury, and aluminum. The body can only cope with so much toxicity until it begins to suffer from acute and chronic issues, like damage to the central nervous function and vital organs.

It’s now possible to test your toxicity levels to determine if your body is suffering from too much dangerous exposure. Continue reading “Why Test Your Toxicity Levels” »

What is IV Nutrient therapy?

IV nutrient therapy is a combination of vitamins that are given through the vein.  It can help boost the immune swellnessystem, increase energy levels and help manage many chronic health problems.  Typically when digestion occurs, nutrients are absorbed into the blood stream from cells of the inner lining of the intestines. If there is a damage to the intestinal cells or digestion is weak, nutrients will not be absorbed.

IV nutrient therapy can help replenish nutrients and provide rapid symptom relief. When people become sick from either an acute or chronic illness, the body requires higher concentrations of nutrients. With IV nutrient therapy, nutrients are directly absorbed to fuel cells.

IV nutrient therapy is done in the office. Patients sit comfortably and a sterile IV line is started. IV nutrient therapy will last approximately 20 minutes, but may vary depending on the specific composition of nutrients being infused. A complete treatment course generally requires a series of IV infusions.

At Hermann Wellness we offer IV nutrient therapy to our patients. Our offices are located in Tampa and St. Petersburg. Please call the office at 813-902-9559 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Immune boosting foods

As the cold season ensues, you might find yourself wondering what foods you can consume to naturally boost the immune system. Our immune system is our first line of defense against outside invaders. We rely heavily on the integrity and function of our immune system to prevent us from getting sick with a cold that could land us in bed for several days. It is important then to consider how we can support the optimal functioning of our immune system with foods. In general avoiding unprocessed foods and sugars will help keep your immune system strong. Increasing the number of servings of fresh vegetables and fruits into your diet will increase the number of phytonutrients that are needed to support your immune system. There are however, selected foods when consumed that have been shown to strengthen the immune system.

Fermented foods, such as yogurt, kimchi, and kombucha contain live probiotics  that help keep the gut lining free from germs. In gingerparticular, the specific strain, Lactobacillus reuteri, has been found to stimulate white blood cells (infection fighting cells) in the body. There are also herbs and spices, such as garlic, ginger, and turmeric that can help ward off infection. Garlic in particular is known to have antiviral, antimicrobial and antifungal properties. For optimal benefits garlic should be consumed fresh. Ginger is well known for both its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and has long been used in many traditions to prevent infection. Turmeric best known for its anti-inflammatory and cancer preventing properties is also a natural immune booster. Mushrooms are gaining attention for their immune boosting benefits. Studies have shown mushrooms increase both the number and activity of white blood cell thereby enhancing the immune systems.  Shiitake, maitake, and reishi appear to be the most potent of the mushrooms with the highest antiviral properties and immune boosting benefits. Certain teas are known to help fend off potential invaders, the two best types are matcha and tulsi tea. Matcha is a nutrient rich green tea from Japan that is also a potent antioxidant. Tulsi tea also known as holy basil contains significant antioxidants and is known to support the immune system. Consider incorporating these foods into your diet this winter season to give a natural boost to your immune system.

Does A Vegetarian Diet Reduce My Risk of Developing Heart Disease?

Healthy foodAccording to The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among adults in the United States.  Controllable risk factors for heart disease include: cholesterol level (LDL and HDL), diabetes, obesity, and systolic blood pressure.  An individual’s age and smoking status are also considered predictors for cardiovascular disease.  Several recent studies have suggested that a vegetarian diet is effective at reducing controllable risk factors for heart disease.

There are various types of vegetarian diets including:  Vegan (exclusively plant-based foods), Lacto-ovo vegetarian (eggs, milk and milk products are included), Pesco – vegetarian (same as lacto-ovo but includes fish and seafood), and Semi-vegetarian (primarily plant based, with occasional meat consumption).

Numerous studies have proven that a plant based diet can decrease a person’s risk of heart disease by reducing risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity.  Often, the adopting a plant based diet will even reverse lesions of occlusive coronary artery disease.  Additionally, patients at risk for developing cardiovascular disease who adopt a vegetarian diet, or at least modify their current diet by reducing red meat and saturated fat intake can reduce or prevent the need for medications.  Given the recent trend in healthcare toward preventative medicine, dietary and lifestyle modifications should be encouraged to reduce cardiovascular disease risk.

Dr.  Anne Hermann, a holistic internal medicine physician, is also board-certified in nutrition.  She offers nutritional counseling and dietary modification programs to her patients.   Please contact the office at 813-902-9559 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
